Structured cabling systems serve as the information channel for a hotel's low-voltage electrical system and the signal interaction neural network for the entire hotel's intelligent system. They integrate with various devices in different systems to achieve diverse intelligent functions. Establishing an advanced structured cabling system can increase hotel customer satisfaction and enhance the hotel's image. A structured cabling system should meet the following three requirements:

**Comprehensive Building Functionality:** Modern hotels encompass multiple functions such as guest rooms, catering, conference facilities, offices, commercial spaces, and entertainment. The structured cabling system plays different service roles in each of these functions.

**Multi-System Integration:** In addition to covering traditional local area networks and telephone lines, hotel structured cabling systems can also cover various systems used in daily hotel operations, such as cable TV video-on-demand, security, intercom communication, wireless internet coverage, and background music.

Multi-Transmission Format and Protocol Integration:** The signals transmitted in the cabling include not only voice, data, images, audio, and video, but also proprietary network protocols such as those used in bank ATMs, guest room management equipment, and intelligent building equipment.

Hotels typically consist of standalone or multi-building structures, belonging to building complexes. Their structured cabling system design must adhere to the seven components required by the "Structured Cabling System Design Standard GB50311," including: work areas, distribution subsystems, backbone subsystems, building complex backbone subsystems, incoming line rooms, equipment rooms, and management. A star network topology is used. This solution fully considers high reliability, high-speed transmission characteristics, flexibility, and scalability.

In recent years, the application of Cat.5e unshielded and shielded cabling has been declining, while Cat.6 unshielded and shielded cabling are currently the mainstream products, and the application of 10 Gigabit Cat.6A and Cat.8 is on the rise. Recommended product levels for hotels are as follows:

Three-star (and below) hotels and business hotels

The design of intelligent systems for these hotels should aim to meet application needs and be appropriately advanced. Cat.6 unshielded cabling products supporting Gigabit Ethernet are recommended.

Four-star (and above) high-end hotels

The construction of high-end hotels is often a regional image project and a landmark building. A high-speed information transmission platform is beneficial for improving hotel service levels. The cabling subsystem infrastructure should, while ensuring the transmission of Gigabit Ethernet, ideally use Cat.6A grade cabling capable of transmitting 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Since hotels are high-traffic areas, the cabling subsystem should preferably use flame-retardant, low-smoke, halogen-free twisted-pair cables or fiber optic cables. Besides preventing the spread of flames to some extent, the main advantage of flame-retardant, low-smoke, halogen-free cables is that their combustion products are only water and carbon dioxide, without producing irritating toxic gases. This reduces the risk of poisoning and suffocation for those trapped in the fire, giving more people a chance to escape.
